It’s a courtesy for players to shake hands before the game begins, but this simple gesture can be the next viral meme or be recorded in history, forever.
Many variations of handshakes over the board have been witnessed. From fist bumps to the hesitant to the awkward to a complete handshake decline (ouch!).

🇸🇬 Singapore
Singapore won the bid to host the next World Championship featuring defending champion Liren of China and Gukesh of India, Gukesh is only 17, making him the youngest contender for the World Champion title. Singapore won the bid over Chennai and New Delhi (FIDE).
Remnants of a make-up chess set in tiny cardboards were unraveled in Auschwitz. Drawings of bishops, kings and rooks were seen on tiny cardboards. Creators and players of the chess sets sought to cope with their grim reality through chess and card games. But they were also risking their lives. 🇧🇩 Bangladesh
The chess world mourns the passing of GM Ziaur Rahman. Rahman suffered a stroke amidst a national championship game. He collapsed to the floor, and he was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead. Rahman was only 50 years old. He was a 15-time Bangladesh Chess Champion. He and his son FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia were the first father-son duo to participate at the Chess Olympiad in 2022. (chess.com)
